First Aid provides initial medical attention to a person suffering an injury or illness. Things to be considered when working out a suitable first aid plan include:
The first aid plan will require suitable kits and training of personnel to provide immediate first aid. Kits must be easy to get to on the worksite and kept in work vehicles or machines. A trained first aider must be available within the working area.
Level 2/Senior First Aid Accreditation is recommended as the minimum and where possible, all workers should have basic first aid knowledge in case the trained first aider is not immediately available.
For work crews undertaking typical forest operations an example of a first aid kit is shown below. Requirements may differ between logging operations so check this with your supervisor.
An individual needs assessment for the crew should be undertaken in accordance with work safe guidance.
More compact personal kits may be used for people working away from other members of a work crew. It is important that First Aid kits are maintained and used contents recorded for regular replacement.
