Coupe/Harvest Plans

Before any operation commences, the forest owner will develop a coupe or harvest plan.

This plan outlines all of the specific instructions for working a forest site.

It is important you know where you can, and can not drive your machine, and the direction trucks are to be driven around the forest.

Most plans will include the following details:

• Areas of particular environmental significance (Exclusion zones);
• Any special treatment required for these areas;
• Location of roads, drainage and log landings;
• Machine servicing areas;
• Watercourses and buffer zones to minimise erosion;
• Emergency assembly areas;
• Any operational (safety or environmental) risks which are specific to the site.

Knowing your responsibilities in relation to the coupe or harvest plan is important and, if you are in any doubt, contact your site supervisor or employer.

Figure 66 shows you an example of a Coupe Plan.
