Stream flow and water catchment

A catchment area is where rain water first hits the land and then runs into streams, creeks, rivers and other waterways.

Catchment areas are called exclusion zones, and are not to be entered by any machinery or vehicles.

Stream and river flow is important for the health of water plants, animals and to ensure there is sufficient water for towns and cities.

The location of logging operations takes into account water volumes before planning.

Muddy water runoff needs to be minimised to prevent sediments reaching water ways.

Water catchment areas should be protected, and the use of extraction roads and tracks in water catchment areas must be maintained.
