Insects, Animals, Plants Pests and Diseases

When working in the forest you will be outside and exposed to the weather conditions; and the wildlife.

It is common for forest workers to see kangaroos, koalas, bees, snakes, spiders, mosquitoes’ bird life and many other types of wildlife when working in the forest.

Many “quiet” animals can become angry if they are disturbed.

Be aware and look out for snakes when entering the forest on foot.

If you are bitten by a snake (Fig 61), stay calm, move as little as possible, and make immediate contact with someone to help get you to medical facilities.

Insects such as mosquitoes carry diseases which can lead to severe illness.

It is important to keep skin covered when working in areas where these insects are to reduce the chance of being bitten.

It is important that animals are not disturbed while you are operating so you do not cause injury to you, or the animal (Fig 62).
