The operator must be aware, and take into consideration daily the following points.
The skidder should be assessed as suitable for the type of terrain it is working in.
It must be fitted with an appropriate protective canopy )Falling Objects Protective Structure (FOPS) & Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS) for the slope and terrain).
Seatbelts must be fitted and worn.
The machine should be operated within the manufacturer specifications.
Conduct machine inspections before operating.
Assess the coupe for rocks, slopes, and other ground-related hazards prior to operating.
Maintain safe work areas and procedures, where entry into another work area only occurs with permission of the other operator.
Maintain visual, oral and / or radio communication with other workers.
Check for overhead hazards before dismounting.
The machine operator must wear appropriate (PPE) safety footwear and high visibility clothing at all times. A safety helmet must be worn when outside the cabin.
Ensure noise levels are checked and hearing protection is worn if noise level exceeds 85 db.
Ensure there are no loose objects inside the cabin of the machine.
Do not over load the grapple where sharp turns need to be made.
When grappling trees on sloping ground, park straight up and down the slope.
Use low gear and keep the speed slow to avoid turnovers.
Operators must be aware of the cost and damage to the machine when a rolled-over occurs, loss of production, and sometimes personal injuries.
