Conduct Skidder Operations

Unit FPIHAR3204B:
Conduct skidder operations
Forest Operations > Conduct Skidder Operations > Skidder Operation

Weather conditions

During summer when logging is mainly performed in steep terrain, wet conditions can occur during thunder storms so you must be alert and be able to evaluate if the job can continue safely in these steep areas.

Trees should be snigged from the steepest area first and keep the flat areas for wet days so that there are no interruptions to the operation.

When on soft ground, snigging trees or logs always follow site policies and procedures to the depth of wheel rutting.

As the operator of the skidder, it is your duty to monitor and report extreme changes in ground conditions to your site supervisor or employer.

Operations may have to stop in areas where the ground is becoming deeply rutted from machine wheels.
