Before planning any skidder operation there needs to be consideration of the hazard zone around the machine.
Unprotected workers should not enter within two tree-lengths of a working skidder.
This is designed to isolate hazards associated with snigging full length trees.
In addition, the hazard zone should take into account the risk associated with debris becoming airborne from the trees being snigged (creating flinging object hazards).
Standing trees can also be hit by the snigged trees creating unexpected falling object hazards.
