Feller Buncher Maintenance
Shut down at the end of the day
- Park in an easy to get to area, not on logging tracks or near where trees are being felled.
- Engage the park brake.
- Run the engine at an idle for between 3 and 5 minutes to allow the turbo to slow down, and the engine to cool.
- Turn off the ignition switch.
- Turn off the main isolator switch.
- You must remain with the machine for no less than 15 minutes after shut down while the engine and exhaust system cools down. This is the most critical time a machine could catch fire. It is a good time to fuel and grease the machine, and attend to any housekeeping in preparation for the next day’s work.
- It is advisable that you familiarise yourself with the shut down procedure recommended by the manufacturer of the machine.
Housekeeping should involve:
- Securing any tools and spare hydraulic hoses to tool box(s);
- Cleaning windows and mirrors;
- Sweeping out the cabin;
- Removing any pine needles and debris from around the exhaust system and engine bay;
- Blowing down the feller buncher; this is important in dusty conditions;
- Removing bark and debris build-up from the feller buncher;
- Filling out the machine report sheet.
