Working environment and conditions
1 Falls from height during repairs, maintenance and servicing Ensure all walking surfaces are cleaned of spilt oils, fuels and any other liquid substances before servicing or maintenance.

Debris and tools / spare parts are clear of walking areas for maintenance.

Machine parked on level ground for stability during maintenance.
  Slips ,trips strains and falls getting in and out of machinery Ensure all steps, hand-rails &  platforms are in place.

Use a harness when working above two metres.

Rather than climb clumsily onto the machinery, use a ladder.

The operator or maintenance personnel should always use three points of contact when entering and exiting machinery.

Use two handed grip hold of hand rails and one foot on a step, or two feet on the steps and one handed grip hold of a hand rail.

Enter facing the steps and hand rails, also exit facing the steps and hand rails.

  Stability of plant and maintenance vehicle Ensure ground is level and firm ensure stability of machinery and maintenance vehicle
  Visibility and lighting Adequate lighting for all work: locations at all hours of work
Exhaust system
1 Hot components When working around HOT components, be aware of their location in the engine bay. Ensure you wear the appropriate PPE e.g. safety glasses, good quality gloves and safety boots of all the HOT components.
