Types of felling heads

Disc Saw Head
The disc saw heads (figures 3, 4, & 5) has a large high speed circular saw at the base of the felling head.

When the head is pushed against the tree the high speed disc will cut as close as possible to the ground. The clamp arms are activated when the tree is nearly cut through.

Shear Blade Head
The shear blade head is placed against the tree, the clamp arms are activated to hold the tree firm and then the shear blades are activated, cutting the tree off as close as possible to the ground.

Both types of heads can cut and hold multiple trees before they are placed on the ground in the required size bunches, (hence felling and bunching)

The Chain Saw Head
The chainsaw head can hold and cut trees down but it is not suited to gather cut trees in the felling head.

The difference is that the floppy head has minimal control of the placement of the tree. Both types of chainsaw heads are not suited to collect cut trees / stems.
